Data, sources and licences

Everything rests on open data, reprocessed town by town. Vintages are shown as close as possible to each figure: a statistic without a date is worth little.

The sources

French public data under the Licence Ouverte 2.0; OpenStreetMap and IDFM under ODbL, whose share-alike terms continue to apply. These are the names of the legal instruments themselves — they are not translated here, so that you can find the actual texts.

Real coverage

Not every town is documented in the same way. The French page shows, criterion by criterion, the share of towns with genuine data — the least flattering figure in the product, which is exactly why it is public. A poorly covered criterion is not wrong: it is less discriminating.

What is never scored

Social housing, places of worship, the mayor's political affiliation: this data never takes part in the ranking. An automated test verifies it at every build.
